Using blender to create a 3d object and after effects for motion tracking, how could I combine the two? Is there any way to export 3d objects to After Effects from Blender? Do I need to bring the movie into blender, and if so is there any way of motion tracking? Say, for example, I have a scene of a table and the camera tracks around it. I create a 3d mug in blender. What next if I want to put the mug on the table in the scene?

You can't do 3d tracking with After Effects. You need software that's way more sophisticated.

If it's a static shot where the camera isn't moving, you should be able to do something like render your 3d object with an alpha channel and just plop it on top of the video, or insert the video as a picture plane behind your object in Blender.

Moving camera shots are a different story all together. To do this properly, you need to match the camera movement in your 3D scene to the camera you shot the footage with. Programs that can do this are fairly expensive. I had a 3D tracking project in my compositing class, and we used an application called PFtrack. I looked up the price and it was $6000.

I like that style too here's something about it.

Digital cinematography is the process of capturing motion pictures as digital images, rather than on film. Digital capture may occur on tape, hard disks, flash memory, or other media which can record digital data. As digital technology has improved, this practice has become increasingly common. Several mainstream Hollywood movies have now been shot digitally, and many vendors have brought products to market, including traditional film camera vendors like Arri and Panavision, new vendors like RED and Silicon Imaging, and companies which have traditionally focused on consumer and broadcast video equipment, like Sony and Panasonic. The benefits and drawbacks of digital vs. film acquisition are still hotly debated, but digital cinematography cameras sales have surpassed mechanical cameras in the classic 35mm format.[citation needed]
